urban landscapes
On this page, windows are opened for our eyes to interact with the contradictions, beauties and rudeness of the urban landscapes of an increasingly rural Brazil.
"By entering my windows you will know, not the cities I have lived in, you will experience the places that inhabit me" . Ventura, manuscript, 2003.

Sabiaguaba was my gateway to Ceará in 2009. In 2010 I started living in the Curió neighborhood and working in Sabiaguaba. These were the first enchantments with the symbiosis of rurbana-praieira Ceará. Hence many fruits were born, bitter and sweet fruits. Finally, there were the works-diaries-memories, sweet fruits that I share with you.

From Bullfinch to Guará, happiness is an idea

First impressions of Ceará marked my perception of places and people as is natural for first impressions. They are in line with the writings on a doorpost of a certain Guaramiranga that my friend Kátia Malena took me to meet. On a wooden tablet was written, "happiness is an idea".
This first impression marks my relationship with places in Ceará and made me think about the reverse of happiness. Sadness is not just an idea, especially in the moment we live, we perceive the concretion of sadness in the forms of death. And what awaits us in the afterlife of our idea of a happy nation? I hope that hunger for life awaits us, and that we know how to live and make us live with respect to death.

The first impressions I afromineiro in Ceará, composed a series of paintings and drawings as record notes, passes through places that welcomed me with their people and their happiness ideas. In fact, I don't even know if happiness is an idea, but I'm sure that every person-place has its idea of happiness.
At the end of the largest public school in the neighborhood, a small community was born, leaning against the wall of the school, on the banks and over a stream that receives part of the sewage discharge from the Curió neighborhood.
The "channel community" grew and passed and further modified the landscape. Loro owned a bar next to his house. From my house I could see his bar and from his bar he could see my house. Loro was not happy, in his idea happiness lived far away, and he left, he moved as the urban landscape of the canal changed. Today you can't see Loro or yours anymore, bar, neither is my house still there.
But Bullfinch is a place that shelters existence and drives the idea of happiness of many people, such as Arraiá da Côca.

At Bullfinch I was attracted by its nocturnal luminosity, its precarious urbanity.
But the coastal urbanity that initially made me think that Ceará would make me happy.
The coastal landscapes of Ceará welcomed me here. I was inspired by a luminous renewal of my palette, which, like my idea of happiness, changed with the lights of Ceará. Which didn't make me happier, but more enlightened in my visual grammar.
